Interview with Ben Sommers conducted by John Gruen as host on the radio station WNCN-FM, New York, on its series The sound of dance, for broadcast on October 20, 1975. Streaming file 1 (approximately 24 minutes). John Gruen introduces his guest, Ben Sommers; Ben Sommers and Gruen speak about Sommers' background, in particular his long relationship with the Capezio company [Capezio Ballet Makers Inc.] and his involvement in dance; the Capezio awards including some of the past recipients; Gruen speaks about three ballets, Balustrade, Stravinsky violin concerto, and Concerto barocco, which Balanchine choreographed to music for the violin and orchestra by Igor Stravinsky; Sommers speaks about how he became involved in dance and designing dance wear; Gruen and Sommers speak further about the Capezio awards; Gruen speaks about the new publication Young dancer [ends abruptly but continues on streaming file 2].
