Sound quality is good to poor. The recording is marred at times by extraneous sounds including "tape hiss," music and voices as well as occasional short gaps. However, overall, the voices of Rogosin and the interviewees are easily intelligible.
Description
Recording made by Elinor Rogosin as material for two radio programs about Jacob's Pillow, to be broadcast by WBAI, New York, on September 5, and October 3, 1970 on the series Dance focus, with Rogosin as host. The recording includes brief interviews conducted by Rogosin with faculty members Betty Poindexter, Margaret Craske, and Barton Mumaw, and with students at the Jacob's Pillow dance school, including the house manager (streaming file 1); as well as brief interviews conducted by Rogosin with Ted Shawn, Asha Devi, Ruth Page, and Joyce Cuoco (streaming file 2). In addition, the recording includes the ambient sounds of part of a dance performance at Jacob's Pillow (including Shawn's introductory remarks) and of dance classes. Streaming file 1 (approximately 47 minutes). Mary Poindexter speaks with Elinor Rogosin about her background and the dance school at Jacob's Pillow [approximately eight minutes; followed by an additional approximate eight minutes of conversation with an unidentified speaker and the ambient sounds of a class]; Rogosin speaks with several students about their backgrounds and reasons for studying at the school [approximately four minutes]; Margaret Craske speaks with Rogosin about teaching at the school [approximately three minute]; Barton Mumaw speaks with Rogosin about Jacob's Pillow, how he came to join Ted Shawn and His Men Dancers, and teaching dance [approximately six minutes]; the house manager, who is not identified by name, speaks with Rogosin about his background, the school, and dance education [approximately nine minutes; remaining approximate five minutes of the recording is primarily ambient sounds including fragments of conversations].
