Content: Picture caption: "Bei den Kämpfen um die Westerplatte bei Danzig und die Halbinsel Hela haben sich die Truppen der deutschen Kriegsmarine durch ihren kühnen Einsatz ausgezeichnet. Auf dem langen Markt in Danzig fand nach Abschluß der Kämpfe eine Parade der Marinetruppen statt."
Content: Westerplatte was a Polish military base near Danzig which was attacked in the opening battle of World war II. Its small garrison withstood attacks from land, sea and air for a week (September 1-7, 1939) before surrendering to much superior German forces.
