Documentary on the significance of ballet in modern life. The role of ballet in education is discussed by Mark Erickson and Gloria Connolly, respectively balletmaster and director of Ballet Arts in Westlake Village, California. Their young students are seen in classes, recitals, and studio performances. Donna Perlmutter, author of Shadowplay, a biography of Antony Tudor, talks about Tudor's contribution to 20th-century ballet. Dancer Katherine Moore discusses the restrictiveness of ballet technique compared with modern dance. She is seen in performance and teaching a floor barre class.
