Content: Image includes small sketch of back of garment. Note how the sleeves are cut in one piece with the bodice, with front and back halves sewn together.
Content: A "sarong" is a long, straight wraparound skirt held up by a scarf wrapped around the waist. Derived from native Malay clothing, the style became popular in the late 1930s after its debut on actress Dorothy Lamour in the film "Hurricane" (1937). This coat has a sarong-inspired sash at its waist to make its "skirt" look like a real skirt.
