Physical DescriptionAudiocassetteExtent: 1 audiocassette (approximately 44 min.) : polyester; quarter-track, 1.875 ips.Sound quality is fair. There is some distortion in the recording, which probably arises from deterioration in the original recording. In addition, the recording is marred in sections by extraneous noise as well as occasional short gaps, and there are speakers whose voices are indistinct. However, overall, the interviewees' voices are easily intelligible.
DescriptionRecordings made from the audio portion of the outtakes from the film, Festival of the dance (see Festival of the dance, cataloged as: *MGZIC 7-98) between 1972 and 1973. The interviewers are unidentified, and occasionally the voices of the film crew cut in. The final approximate 30 seconds of streaming file 2 consists of ambient noise. The interviews were held in various locations.
Streaming file 1 (approximately 30 minutes). The first excerpt takes place in a dance studio at Connecticut College, and the speaker is Charles Weidman. The second and third excerpts take place on a train to New London, Connecticut. Weidman is the speaker; this portion includes a conversation with dancer Linda Tarnay. In the fourth excerpt José Limón is the speaker. The fifth excerpt contains portions of speeches by Rosemary Park, Martha Hill, Charles Weidman, and Teddy [Theodora] Wiesner on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the American Dance Festival at Connecticut College. In the final excerpt Limón speaks about Emperor Jones and contemporary dance. Other topics discussed by the speakers include the history of modern dance in the United States and the American Dance Festival at Connecticut College, current trends in modern dance, reconstructing Doris Humphrey's New dance, and capturing dance on film.
