DescriptionThis program traces the life and career of German modern dance pioneer Hanya Holm with archival footage and photographs. Beginning with her early work with Mary Wigman through her move to the United States and the establishment of her own school, the Hanya Holm Scool of Dance, and her dance company, Hanya Holm Dance Company, to her influence on an entire generation of modern dancers. Also discusses her work as a choreographer for operas, films, and Broadway shows including Kiss Me Kate, My Fair Lady, and Camelot, and explaining that Holm was the first to use labanotation to document and copyright choreography for the theater.
