Nancy Dalva interviews Merce Cunningham. Topics discussed include: Beach Birds; the nature of titles; Ocean; the idea of location and place within Cunningham's choreography; seeing dance from the perspectives of dancer and spectator; the notion of chance; using chance operations and the I-Ching; rhythmic phrasing; Cunningham's artistic comadery with Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, John Cage and the Black Mountain School; the influence of scientific thought and discovery on Cunningham's choreography; Roaratorio.
