Description
Ethan Brown and Parrish Maynard, dancers with American Ballet Theatre, recall how Ulysses Dove created the ballet Serious pleasures for the company. They describe the technical and expressional demands he made upon the dancers, citing in particular the choreography's athleticism and frank sexual content. They also note the difficulty of coping with the elaborate set, which included nine doors, through which the dancers had to make numerous entrances and exits. Both Maynard, who danced a leading role in the ballet, and Brown describe how Dove's emphasis on human qualities helped them broaden their expressional range as dancers.
