Description
As the material begins, Elliot Caplan is seen doing a camera and sound check, preparing for an interview with Bonnie Bird, Merce Cunninghams first dance teacher. Following this, the interview proper begins. Bird first discusses the way in which she met Cunningham, as a student in one of her classes at Cornish University, as well as the genesis of his passion for dance, through early projects created under her tutelage. She then talks about meeting John Cage via hiring him as conductor and composer for her classes, thus leading to Cage and Cunningham meeting and collaborating for the first time (14:50). The interview ends abruptly, in mid-sentence.
