Notes
Content: Printed on border: "Singular accident -- crinoline convenient sometimes." "The young lady, Mr. Anderson's sister, was better prepared for such an emergency, having on, fortunately for herself, a hoop skirt, which so completely buoyed her up on the surface of the water, that, beyond the fright, she suffered nothing more than a good wetting. She remained floating about for some time, when she was rescued by the ferryman and pulled into the boat … This event is one of the strongest arguments in favor of hoop skirts that has been brought under our notice, it having proved, in this instance, a most excellent life preserver." Includes additional text.
