Content: Printed on image verso: "Before The Coming Of The White Man - - American Indians of the northern plains as represented in original "close-up" drawings done from life by Carl Bodmer about 1834. His studies of Indian types, recognized as faithful and reliable, are notable records of the physical appearance of these American Indians untouched by the sligtest influence of White civilization. Bodmer, a Swiss artist, accompanied the Austrian nobleman, Prince Maximilian, on his famous expedition into the wilds of America. From "Adventurers in the wilderness, "being Volume 1 of The pageant of America series, published by Yale University Press."
