Content: Printed on border: "By a mixture of the Chinese black Swine with others of the larger British breed, a kind has been produced which possesses many qualities superior to either of the original stocks. They are very prolific, are sooner made fat than the larger kind, upon less provisions, and cut up, when killed, to more useful and convenient portions. Our figure was taken from a sow of this kind, in the possession of Arthur Mowbray, Esq. of Sherburn, in the county of Durham. She had a litter of nineteen pigs to support at the time, which was the third within ten months: the whole amounted, in that time, to fifty pigs. The Chinese or black breed is now very common in England. They are smaller, have shorter legs, and their flesh is whiter and sweeter than the common kind …"
