Description
Fig. 1 is Theodosius “the Great”, Eastern Roman Emperor (ruled 379-395 AD). Successor to Valens, the emperor killed at the head of his army by the Goths at the Battle of Adrianople, he established Christianity as the state religion of his empire. Fig. 2 is an officer of the Imperial Guard from the 300s AD. The smaller illustrations are details of helmets, pants, leggings and boots worn by Roman riders.
