Content: Printed on border: " ... Persians as an outside garment; it was usually of purple or similar brilliant colour.† CANEPHOROS (Gr.) The bearer of the round basket containing the implements of sacrifice, in the processions of the Dionysia, Panathenea, and other public festivals. The attitude in which they appear in works of art, is a favourite one with the ancient artists; the figure elevates one arm to support the basket carried on the head, and with other slightly raises her tunic."
