DescriptionSpeaking before an audience composed of members of the Association of Performing Arts Presenters, choreographers Merce Cunningham and Trisha Brown discuss: their shared background in the Pacific Northwest; Cunningham's memories of his teacher Nellie Cornish; aspects of his choreographic process, including a description of his method by Cunningham dancer Robert Swinston, his use of chance procedures and the computer, the absence of story elements in his work, his use of space, and aerial work; their shared interest in drawing, and his perceptions of the relationship of drawing and theater work. Answering questions from the audience, Cunningham discusses how he and John Cage developed a new relationship between music and dance; his preference in titles for dance works; how different dancers transform the same choreography.
