Description
The premiere of John Cage's piece Organ 2/ASLSP at Temple Neuf, Metz, France. The video begins with footage of the fountain in front of the theater, the theater building and signs announcing the arts season of which the event is a part. Following this, the inside of the theater is seen in a static shot, as the performance begins (5:31). Following the conclusion of the piece (35:32), the footage cuts to a reception at the Hotel De Ville, at which a speech honoring Cage is given (39:08). Upon the tribute's conclusion (48:40), the footage shifts to a brief section which appears to be backstage preparation for the event, with Cage giving instructions, though the static, single angle way in which this section is shot makes it difficult to determine definitively what's taking place (60:00). Cage then conducts a question and answer session regarding his work, which continues through the material's conclusion (1:14:53.)
