Notes
Content: Title devised by cataloger.
Acquisition: Gift of Lillian Moore.
Biographical/historical: This print is based on a full-length image by the French artist Achille Devéria. Elssler's pose is based on Jean Auguste Barre's bronze statuette, made in 1837, of her performance of the cachucha. She was lauded for the fire and sensuality she brought to this dance, and inspired many artists to depict its various moments.
