Statement of responsibility: Includes photographs by Bonney and other photographers. Photographs stamped "M. Therese Bonney," or "Therese Bonney" may be by Miss Bonney. Those stamped "Bonney" with request for a credit are assumed to be from her photograph agency and are likely by other (mostly unidentified) photographers.
Biographical/historical: Thérèse Bonney, 1897-1978, was born in N.Y., raised and educated in California, at Harvard, Columbia, and the Sorbonne. The author of several books, she ran a photo agency in Paris beginning in the 1920s. She took up photography herself in the 1930s, photographing the Vatican, the Russo-Finnish War, and civilians during World War II, made while working as a free-lance journalist, and through a grant by the Carnegie Corporation.
