Statement of responsibility: Composed by Henry Purcell, organist of Their Majesties Chappel, and of St. Peters Westminster.
Statement of responsibility: Libretto by T. Betterton from Fletcher and Massinger's The prophetess (c.f. New Grove, 15:469); also attributed to F. Beaumont.
Biographical/historical: First performed in London at the Queen's Theatre, Dorset Garden, May 1690.
Content: "Advertisement" on page [175]; "Musick books sold by John Carr at the Middle-Temple-Gate" on page [176].
Ownership: Drexel 4965: Inside front cover contains annotation from several previous owners, the most prolific being Vincent Novello, who mentions having obtained the volume from a Mr. Picaut, an acquaintance of Samuel Wesley; Novello then inscribes the book to the Musical Antiquarian Society (Edward F. Rimbault), dated [18]40.
