Over 9,000 photographic negatives by Morris Huberland (1909-2003) dating from the 1940s through the 1980s. The collection focuses largely on images of New York City and its inhabitants, featuring such locations as Lincoln Center, Washington Square, Central Park, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Rockefeller Center, Coney Island, and the World Trade Center. Jewish life and culture are also recurrent themes, including images of synagogues and historically Jewish neighborhoods such as Manhattan's Lower East Side, the Fairfax District of Los Angeles, and Kensington Market in Toronto, as well as photographs taken in Israel. The collection is a mix of street and documentary photography and more personal and family-oriented photographs. Experimental montage and still life images are included as well.
