Statement of responsibility: This Survey was organized by the United States Coast and Geodetic Survey (1878-1970) and led by George Davidson (American, 1825-1911), a geodesist. The photographs has been credited to "W.Suess" (Werner Suess) but according to Peter Palmquist, the photographs were taken by Watkins and that Suess had borrowed them to publish them under his own name.
