- Biographical/historical: Billy Rose, theatrical producer, columnist, and radio commentator, was born William Samuel Rosenberg, on September 6, 1899. He was the son of David and Fannie Rosenberg. After educating himself as a proficient Gregg shorthand stenographer, Rose educated himself by going to The New York Public Library's Theatre and Music Sections, and reading extensively on the subject of musical theatre. Through his talent for self-education, Rose eventually became a successful theatrical producer. On February 8, 1929, Rose married performer Fannie Brice at City Hall in New York. The wedding was officated by New York mayor Jimmy Walker. A few years later Rose and Brice were divorced. On November 14, 1939, Rose married Eleanor Holm. This marriage ended in divorce, too. He was later married to, was divorced from, remarried to, and was divorced again from Joyce Matthews. He was later married to Doris Warner Vidor. This marriage was dissolved, too.
